2016 Summer Workshops for Teens

Woodworking

One hundred years ago, if you wanted toys, furniture, and tools than they had to be built by the experienced hands of a woodworker. Sign up now for this one-day workshop for your opportunity to learn this crucial skill. Your student will get the chance to learn the history and techniques of woodworking, and then put that knowledge into practice. This is a very unique occasion to learn and create wonderful homemade objects. This event is taught by the volunteers and staff of the Museums of Western Colorado.

Time: 9 am–3 pm

Ages: 14–16

Fee: $50 per student

Student limit: 10

What to wear/bring: Comfortable clothing, lunch, water bottle, safety goggles, and work gloves

Bunkhouse

Have you ever wondered what life was like in 1916? Well, come and experience it for yourself! This one-day event will teach you how those in the early twentieth century lived their day-to-day lives. As part of this workshop, the students will engage in the different morning, noon, and evening bunkhouse activities that were crucial to the ensured survival of Cross Orchards. This is a very unique opportunity to spend the day in the shoes of your ancestors.

Archaeology

Archaeology is one of the most exciting and unique professions in the world. Now is your chance to learn and experience what makes this discipline so amazing. Sign up for this one day workshop to learn the history of this science, how it is performed, and participate in a mock excavation. Led by the wonderful staff at the Museums of Western Colorado, your student will gain invaluable experience and a new appreciation of the past.
