Introducing Our New Site Logos: Unique but Unified

We are proud to introduce to our members and friends the new logo designs for Cross Orchards, Dinosaur Journey, Museum of the West, and Loyd Files Research Library. These are not replacing the current Museums of Western Colorado (MWC) logo. On the contrary, the intent is to help strengthen the image of the MWC as well as bring positive attention to each of the unique sites. Planned Giving

Gift to the Museum from Bonnie and Leland Cofer The Museums of Western Colorado recently received a nice donation from Bonnie J. and Leland E. Cofer’s Trust. This is a nice gift and we very much wanted to share the news of the donation with the MWC members. Leland moved to Grand Junction in 1923 with his family when he was two-years old. Forced Cuts at the Museums of Western Colorado

Recently, the Mesa County Commissioners had to reduce the budgets of all County departments and community partners by 5%; this included the annual County investment in Museums of Western Colorado (MWC). The County contribution to MWC is based on a 1974 election by the Mesa County voters who, by a 4-to-1 margin, agreed that the community should have a financially-supported museum dedicated to persevering local heritage. The MWC acknowledges that Mesa County departments are taking … Read More

by Peter Booth, Executive Director I recently had a conversation with staff about Museums of Western Colorado’s strengths. While I personally am proud of our exhibits, trips and digs, archives and collections, volunteers and plenty more, the discussion made it clear to us that one of our greatest strengths is our many partnerships in the community. The MWC truly is a community-based museum. We were created by the community, and continue to be both strengthened … Read More

Thanking Our Mesa County Commissioners

Year in and year out, Mesa County citizens have been the largest supporters of the Museums of Western Colorado (MWC). Thanks to a 1974 ballot initiative, Mesa County voters expressed their desire by a 5 to 1 margin that the county should help fund what is now the Museums of Western Colorado. While a specific amount of money was not designated, for the most part the County Commissioners have honored this vote. Despite the County’s … Read More
